On May 14, 2009, Pastor Betsy Diver
suffered two strokes and was hospitalized at Richmond University Medical
Center. On May 22, she was moved to Staten Island University Hospital, north
site to receive acute rehabilitation services. Her mental status was not
negatively affected and her speech was only very minimally affected; she can be
completely and thoroughly understood when speaking. Since her move to SIUH, she
has been receiving intensive physical and occupational therapy. She was
originally approved for 18 days of therapy in an acute care setting; however,
the medical team is so pleased with her progress that the recommendation is to
extend the initially approved time period so that she is able to continue to
consolidate the gains that she has made. Her progress will be regularly
updated here. 7/4/09 Pastor Betsy continues to make positive progress in her recovery while in rehab. A brace has now been fitted to her left leg and it is believed that she will not need to use a wheelchair when she returns home. Some movement in her left wrist is now returning. She continues to appreciate your visits, kind thoughts, words and prayers. Susan Leslierandal 7-29-09 Pastor Betsy continues to make progress in her recovery.
